PHYSCIAL INTELLIGENCE
Physical Intelligence Raises $400 Million in Funding with Support from Jeff Bezos and OpenAI 🧠

Physical Intelligence, a startup dedicated to developing AI brains for robots, has successfully secured $400 million in funding. This investment boosts the company's post-money valuation to $2.4 billion.

Details:

  • The funding round was spearheaded by Jeff Bezos, with participation from prominent firms such as Thrive Capital, Lux Capital, and OpenAI.

  • The startup aims to introduce "general-purpose AI into the physical world" by creating extensive artificial intelligence models and algorithms to power robots.

  • They assert that they are not developing a brain for a single robot but rather a 'universal' brain capable of controlling any robot. The objective is to eliminate the necessity for specific programming for each robotic function.

This significant influx of funding will undoubtedly propel the startup closer to realizing its vision: a future where users can "effortlessly instruct robots to perform any desired task, much like they interact with large language models (LLMs) and chatbot assistants."

META
Meta Grants US Military Access to Llama AI Model

Meta has made a notable decision to permit the US military and defense contractors to utilize its Llama AI model for national security applications.

Details:

  • Meta is collaborating with companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and IBM to offer Llama to government organizations.

  • The AI model is designed for applications like “simplifying complex logistics and planning, monitoring terrorist financing, or bolstering our cyber defenses.”

  • Meta enforces limitations on using Llama for direct military operations and espionage activities.

  • The company states that Oracle is already employing Llama to improve aircraft maintenance, while Lockheed Martin is utilizing it to generate code and analyze data.

Other AI companies are also forming partnerships with the military. It is reported that the US Africa Command has acquired cloud services from Microsoft, which includes access to OpenAI's tools. Meanwhile, Google DeepMind has secured a cloud computing contract with the Israeli government.

How to Use Claude AI for PDF Analysis

Claude's new Visual PDFs feature, now available in beta, enables users to view and analyze PDF files. The model can interpret not just text, but also images, charts, and graphs within a PDF.

Note: This feature is exclusive to Claude Sonnet 3.5, which is currently accessible only to paid users. The PDF must not exceed 32 MB or 100 pages, and it cannot be encrypted or password-protected.

Here’s how to use this new PDF feature:

  1. Log into Claude

  2. Enable the visual PDF analysis feature preview,

Click on your initials in the lower left corner and select “Feature Preview” from the dropdown menu. In the next menu, turn on the visual PDF analysis toggle.

  1. Return to the main screen and start a new chat. Click the paperclip icon, select a PDF from your computer, and wait for the file's thumbnail to appear under the prompt. Then, type and submit your question or request.

Tips:

  • When referring to specific pages of a PDF, use the page numbers as shown in your PDF viewer, not the numbers printed on the document itself.

  • If you're working with larger documents, you can split them into smaller files and upload each one separately to stay within the limits.
